Q:This is your first step into politics. How does it feel, and how prepared do you feel for this new journey?
Dr. Meera Munda: This may look like my first step to some, but the truth is, I’ve been walking this path since 2000, standing alongside the BJP as a dedicated worker. As a candidate, yes, it’s the first time I’ll be contesting an election, and I am deeply grateful that the party’s senior leaders have entrusted me with this responsibility. I’ve been out in the field for over two decades, campaigning in Kolhan and across the state for the party. This role is no different—it’s simply a new form of the same devotion. Alongside this, I’ve been closely associated with the Saraikela Archery Association, nurturing talent in the community. You may recognize names like Deepika Mahto, who picked up her first bow with us, and Paltan Hansda, whose victory first put our center in the spotlight. It’s this same commitment I bring to the people of Potka.
Q: You are the wife of Arjun Munda — does the weight of his legacy feel like a challenge, or perhaps a responsibility?
Dr. Meera Munda: It’s an honor beyond words to be Arjun Munda’s wife. He’s been a pillar of support in every way, standing by me as I’ve grown and stepped forward to serve. The prestige attached to his name doesn’t intimidate me; it inspires me. This isn’t a contest about names but about giving my best for the people of Potka. The BJP has given me the chance, and with his and the people’s support, I am more than ready.
Q: With the election date fast approaching, do you feel nervous or confident?
Dr. Meera Munda: Confidence fills my heart. Everywhere I go, I am welcomed with warmth and support. The outpouring of love and encouragement is overwhelming. My days are packed with meetings and interactions with party workers and beloved constituents—every encounter reinforces my dedication to Potka.
Q: Did you ever imagine one day you’d be contesting as a candidate? Was this decision a surprise?
Dr. Meera Munda: My journey in the BJP was always driven by my commitment as a loyal worker. For over two decades, I’ve worked to fulfill any responsibility the party placed on my shoulders. This time, they’ve given me the honor of contesting for Potka, and I take this task just as seriously as any other. It’s not a question of a sudden decision but of embracing the next step with all I have.
Q: In your constituency, there are some who reportedly feel disappointed with the party’s choice of candidate. How do you respond to this?
Dr. Meera Munda: This is nothing more than the opposition’s attempt to sow discord. Our party, the BJP, stands on a foundation of unity and strength. We’re a family, and every single worker is deeply committed to the party’s mission. This election isn’t about individual names—it’s about challenging the current JMM-Congress alliance government and safeguarding our state’s future. I see everyone’s support, and I am honored to serve all of Potka.
Q: This election sees a significant number of women candidates representing the BJP. How do you view this change?
Dr. Meera Munda: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision has always been to empower women, and we’re seeing his words turn into action. With the Women’s Reservation Bill, the BJP is proving its commitment to giving women a strong foothold in every field. Our candidates in the Jharkhand assembly are part of a larger movement, setting an example that the BJP keeps its promises. This is a new era for women in politics, and I’m proud to be a part of it.
Q: Balancing household duties, party work, and still completing your PhD—how did you manage it all?
Dr. Meera Munda: It was no easy feat. I completed my PhD in Hindi from Kolhan University, and every step was a test of determination and resilience. There were long pauses in my studies, but I kept my father’s words close to my heart—he encouraged me to reach for more, no matter the obstacles. Today, I can say with pride that I have fulfilled his dream. My message to all is simple: education has no age limit, and it only adds to your strength.
Q: What suggestion do you have for the youth of today who often seek shortcuts to achieve their goals?
Dr. Meera Munda: To the youth, I say this: there are no shortcuts to real success. True achievement comes from perseverance, dedication, and the willingness to face challenges head-on. My own journey—from balancing family responsibilities to being actively involved in the BJP and pursuing my PhD—has taught me that every hurdle is an opportunity to grow stronger. Shortcuts may bring quick results, but they often lack depth and lasting impact. When you put in the effort and stay committed, you build not just a career but a legacy. Embrace patience, seek knowledge, and let hard work shape your path. Remember, true accomplishment is a journey, not a destination.
