Collision on NH-33: Hyva Driver Killed in Early Morning Crash Near Nawadih

Mail News Service

Jamshedpur: A Hyva driver was killed in a road accident on the Ranchi–Jamshedpur National Highway (NH-33) in the early hours of Tuesday. The high-impact collision occurred near Nawadih village, falling under the jurisdiction of the Dasam Fall police station.

Details of the Fatal Accident

The mishap took place at approximately 3:30 AM when an empty Hyva truck, traveling from Ranchi toward Bundu, crashed into the rear of a stationary trailer parked on the roadside.

The trailer, which was transporting multani mitti (Fuller’s earth) to Odisha, had reportedly broken down earlier. The trailer driver, Jitendra, was reportedly standing near the vehicle to stay warm when the speeding Hyva struck the heavy vehicle.

Rescue Operation and Casualty

The force of the impact was so severe that the front cabin of the Hyva was completely crushed, trapping the driver inside. The victim has been identified as Budhan Lal Uraon.

Local police arrived at the scene shortly after the crash and deployed a crane to pull apart the mangled wreckage. After a grueling several-hour operation, the driver’s body was extricated. Unfortunately, Uraon had succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

Investigation into the Cause

Preliminary findings by the Dasam Fall police suggest a combination of factors led to the tragedy:

  • Overspeeding: The Hyva was reportedly traveling at a high velocity.
  • Poor Visibility: Low light conditions in the “small hours” of the morning may have prevented the driver from spotting the stationary vehicle in time.
  • Stationary Obstruction: The broken-down trailer parked on the highway shoulder created a hazardous obstacle.

Impact on Traffic

The accident caused a significant traffic bottleneck on one side of the NH-33. However, because the highway is a four-lane stretch, police were able to divert vehicles through the operational lanes, preventing a total standstill.

The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and further investigations are underway to determine if the stationary trailer had deployed proper hazard indicators or reflective triangles.
