Jamshedpur : A husband hacked her wife to death suspecting extramarital affair at their house at Dhatkidih under Bistupur thana area , early Monday morning.
The victim, Manjuri Bag (40) was rushed to Tata Main Hospital by the neighbours where the doctors on emergency duty declared her as brought dead.
The assailant (husband) Devanand Bag (42) who was trying to run after the crime was nabbed by policemen posted at the Dhatkidih Thana Out-post.
The assailant was later handed over to the Bistupur police station. The police have also seized the blood-stained axe that Devanand had used in killing his wife. The incident took place at the out-house of Bungalow No 12 atn Dhatkidih in Bistupur.
Officer-in-charge, Bistupur police station, Srinivas said the assailant has already been arrested and they have registered a case against him on the basis of an FIR lodged by Rahul Bag, son of the murder victim.
” We are investigating the incident. He killed his wife under the influence of liquor and he murdered her as he had suspicion that his wife would meet with other men while he would remain away on duty,” said the officer-in-charge.
The incident took place when the victim Manjuri was deep in sleep along with her 14-year-old daughter Shivangi on a cot.”While her daughter was sleeping, Devanand hit her neck with an axe repeatedly.
In the commotion, Shivangi woke up and awakened up her brother, Rahul, who was sleeping nearby on an another cot. On seeing their father attacking their mother with the axe, they both tried to hold the assailant, but by that time the assailant had already hacked her,” said the officer-in-charge.
Rahul (18) said his father always would quarrel with his mother having consumed liquor. The assailant who was in police custody said “My wife had extramarital affair.
At the wee hours of Monday, I woke her up from sleep she slapped me hard on my face and pushed me back. Soon afterward I went over to a liquor den and consumed liquor. I returned home and killed my wife by hitting with the axe. ”
