
Jamshedpur: Over 200 people gathered at the Tata Workers` Union (TWU) office at Jamshedpur for the Heritage Walk to celebrate history of TWU on Wednesday (May 1).
The Heritage Walk was organised as part of the Centenary Year celebration of TWU. The Walk commenced from the Tata Workers� Union Office and concluded at G Town Club Ground. The Heritage Walk was flagged off by Suresh Dutt Tripathi, Vice President (Human Resource Management), Tata Steel.
R Ravi Prasad, President, TWU welcomed the gathering and talked about the significance of the Walk. Addressing the gathering, Tripathi said, �We are proud of our heritage. TWU has played a significant role in the development of the company and we should celebrate that.�
Satish Singh,General Secretary, TWU spoke about the foundation of TWU and 100 glorious years journey of its existence. The historical significance of TWU Office building was also shared, constructed at a cost of more than Rs. 3.5 lakhs and inaugurated by B C Bhagawati, President, INTUC on March 19, 1978.
At G Town Club Ground, a short video film on Mahatma Gandhi and his association with Tata Steel was screened along with a video clip of speech of T V Narendran, CEO&MD, Tata Steel, which was delivered by him during the Michael John Memorial Lecture in 2018.
At the G Town Ground, Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President (Corporate Services), Tata Steel spoke about the historical significance of the G Town Club Ground, where, on September 21, 1931 Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose addressed the workers during the time when some anti- company people were trying to break the peace between the Union and the Management. He listened to the workers� grievances and advised to maintain industrial harmony. He congratulated TWU for the milestone achieved and wished them luck for future.
The Heritage Walk saw participation from Senior Management of Tata Steel, Avneesh Gupta, Vice President (Shared Services), Uttam Singh, Vice President (Iron Making), Tarun Daga, Managing Director, JUSCO, senior officers of Tata Steel including HR Officials, TWU Office Bearers, among others. The entire event was coordinated by Shahnawaz Alam, Vice President, TWU along with Centre for Excellence. The vote of thanks was delivered by Arvind Pandey, Deputy President, TWU.
