Jamshedpur, March 9: Newly appointed Dhalbhum SDO is leaving no stone unturned to make the government land free of illegal constructions.
The East Singhbhum district headed by SDO Suraj Kumar along with JNAC Special officer Deepak Sahay and about 50 armed policemen removed encroachment from Bhuiyadih Chaya Nagar Basti under Sitaramdera Police Station demolishing half a dozen houses and godowns.
Two excavators involved in the job demolished houses and several extended boundary walls.
A spacious godown built by Manju Shah was about to be razed but seeing the tiles inside, SDO gave time to empty the godown and then razed down its boundary wall.
Several residents of the area came out to protest against the administration but were of no use as the JCB continued to raze down the illegal houses.
Drive to make city encroachment free would continue and have also served notice to people prior to the drive so that unauthorised persons may remove their house-hold belongings from their places, said SDO Suraj Kumar.
The increasing encroachment on the Government and Tata Steel lease land area particularly on busy market areas has become a matter of concern for the district administration.
Later in the day, SDO also visited Jugsalai railway crossing probably to inspect the area around for the Over bridge.
