Jamshedpur: With Christmas around the corner, Jamshedpur has begun to glow with festive cheer. Hotels, clubs and community organisations across the city are hosting traditional Cake Mixing Ceremonies, an age-old ritual that marks the official beginning of the Christmas season.
Adding to this festive fervour, Vivanta Jamshedpur, Golmuri organised a vibrant Cake Mixing Ceremony on Tuesday evening at the Vibgyor Hall. The event saw enthusiastic participation from special guests, hotel associates and members of the community, who came together to celebrate this cherished Christmas tradition.
Guests gathered around large trays neatly decorated with raisins, almonds, cashews, pistachios and aromatic Christmas spices, joyfully taking part in the mixing process. Stalls set up within the hotel premises displaying a range of cakes and bakery items further drew the attention of visitors.
Carol singing, live music and a beautifully decorated festive ambience added charm to the celebration. From children to adults, everyone enjoyed being part of this seasonal ritual.
According to the hotel management, the Cake Mixing Ceremony marks the first stage of Christmas preparations. The mixed dry fruits and spices are soaked in wine or liqueur for several weeks before being used to bake the traditional Christmas fruit cakes.
Hotel Manager Vijay Kumar expressed delight at hosting the ceremony, calling it the formal beginning of the Christmas and New Year festivities at the hotel. Extending warm wishes of Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to the people of Jamshedpur, he also shared that several special events have been planned for guests of all age groups this season.
Participants enjoyed interacting with each other, making the ceremony a memorable start to the festive season. The event once again highlighted Vivanta Jamshedpur, Golmuri’s commitment to honouring cultural traditions and strengthening community bonds.
The evening concluded with warm greetings and cheer as the mixed ingredients were set aside for marination—soon to be transformed into delicious, aromatic Christmas fruit cakes.
The Cake Mixing Ceremony, celebrated worldwide, involves combining dry fruits such as raisins, apricots, prunes and currants with nuts like almonds and walnuts, along with spices including cinnamon and nutmeg. These are then soaked in rum or brandy to prepare the perfect base for classic Christmas fruit cakes.
