Hosts Carmel and Loyola lead in Team Chess Tourney

Jamshedpur, July 29: The 5th edition of the Carmel Summit Interschool Team Chess Tournament 2017 commenced at the Carmel Junior College, Sonari, on Saturday.

Hosts Carmel Junior College with 12 points from 3 wins is leading the senior group after round three. Motilal Nehru Public School with 9 points is second in the standing while J.H. Tarapore School with 8 points is third.

In the junior group-Loyola School with 10 points after winning all their three matches is sitting at the top followed by Carmel Junior College with 7 points and KPS Kadma with 7 points.

Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by the District Superintendent of Education Banke Bihari Singh.

There are 10 invited school teams in each group and each team consisting of 4 players. Notable participants are, current under -16 Commonwealth Gold Medalist Vatsal Singhania, Silver Medalist in World School Blitz 2017, Sara Jain and Bidisha Roy of Carmel Junior College, Jharkhand State Senior Champion Anshul Nigam of Loyola High School.

The CEO, AJCA Pritam Singh and IM Neeraj Kumar Mishra, Secretary, AJCA were also present to grace the occasion. The tournament is being played in round robin basis i.e. 9 rounds.

Carmel Junior College sports co-ordinator Pradip Mukherjee, said, the inaugural day had three rounds. Four rounds will be held on Sunday and two rounds will be held on Monday, the concluding day.
