High alert sounded over third wave of COVID-19 in Jamshedpur

Shops sealed, public fined for protocol violations

Jamshedpur, July 13: After battling the second wave of COVID-19, the district administration has started taking steps to ramp up preparations for the possible third wave of COVID-19. The city has witnessed over 1000 deaths during the pandemic and has started taking initiatives to counter the next wave.

The administration has set up random testing campaigns in different areas to keep a check on increasing cases. An intensive mask checking campaign was conducted in the district. During the campaign led by the Incident Commander for protection from corona infection, many shops were sealed for the next 24 hours for violation of Covid protocol.

In Bistupur market area, action was taken to seal four shops like boutique, mobile, sherwani, bracelet store etc. A leading jewellery store was closed due to overcrowding in the store, giving 24-hour notice for violation of social distancing and customers not wearing masks. A mask checking campaign was conducted by executive magistrate Chandradev Prasad in Kadma and Sonari, Special Officer of JNAC, Sakchi Bazar area and Executive Officer of Mango Municipal Corporation in Mango.

“We are also holding random camps in different panchayats to keep a check on cases as rural areas are expected to report higher numbers of cases. People traveling in the area are randomly getting tested, moreover, if anyone in the village faces any symptoms then they can get themselves tested here,” said an official.

A team comprising local police stations in-charge along with incident commanders are visiting different areas and to take action against those violating norms of social distancing.

“Despite a turbulent second wave, people are still not following the rules. Strict enforcement of the triad of precautionary measures — use of masks and sanitisers and following social distancing — in public spaces has become a priority,” said the official.

Deputy Commissioner Suraj Kumar and Senior Superintendent of Police M Tamil Vanan directed incident commanders to conduct random checking against shops in market places. He reiterated residents not to leave their homes unnecessarily, if it’s urgent they need to go out then they must use masks, as well as wash hands with soap and sanitiser at regular intervals.

He added that shops should allow only a limited number of customers into the premises at a time. “Social distancing is a need of the hour and we shall enforce it,” he added.
