Jamshedpur: Jharkhand tate Congress committee’s minority cell chairman Hidayatullah Khan today resigned from the primary membership of the party. He sent his resignation to All India Congress Committee president Sonia Gandhi.
Speaking about his decision, Khan said he would be taking a decision on joining another political party in next few days. He said he would join a party which may ensure the welfare of minorities.
Asked about contesting Assembly polls, he said the current political situation did not permit him to do so. He said he still had the potential to ensure victory or defeat of candidates. “Ever since Sukhdev Bhagat took over as the state Congress president, I felt suffocated within the party.
It had become impossible to continue in the party,” said Khan. Advising the AICC president and vice president Rahul Gandhi and other senior party leaders of doing away with the minority cell of the party, Khan said the cell should instead be merged with the mainstream of the party.
The former Congress minority leader said the AICC minority cell chairman Khurshid Ahmad had dissolved all committees of the minority department of the AICC as per the directive of Sonia Gandhi.
He said he was not informed about the development by the state Congress president.
