Heavy rush at trains leaves passengers in lurch

Jamshedpur : If you are planning to journey by train this summer, book your ticket the earliest possible, as advanced booking under Chakradharpur division has gained momentum.

Sources in computerised ticket reservation counters at Tatanagar revealed that tickets for several long distance trains to New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai have already been booked.
Passengers heading towards metro cities from Tatanagar Railway station are facing tough time due to heavy rush in a majority of trains. Vacations have caused a huge rush of commuters in trains on long routes. A long waiting list is causing inconvenience to many, who are not getting confirmation of their seats.

The waiting lists in several trains like Howrah-Mumbai Geetanjali Express, Sambalpur-Howrah Ispat Express, Puri-New Delhi Puroshottam Express, Howrah-Ahmedabad Express and Tatanagar Jammu Tawi is almost exhausted.

Officials at the Tatanagar computerised railway booking counter revealed that waiting lists in several trains like Puri- New Delhi Neelanchal Express, Purushottam Express and Howrah-Ahmedabad Express have reached the 100-mark for the entire May and June month.

Tatanagar station official said every year during the summer vacation such rush is witnessed. Steps are being taken to ease the rush. He went on to inform that South Eastern Railway has decided to attach extra coaches to several long distance trains passing through Tatanagar to accommodate passengers.

Meanwhile, in an attempt to clear the rush of passengers, South Eastern Railway from today introduced a bi-weekly summer weekly special train between Shalimar and Gondia ( Maharashtra) via Tatanagar. The train will run till the first week of May. Railway sources said that the train might be extended for a couple of weeks depending on the rush.

To cope with the situation, attempts are being made for additional bogies so as to clear the extra rush of passengers, said Awtar Singh, station manager of Tatanagar.

” We have sent requisitions to Garden Reach, headquarters of South Eastern Railway ( SER) for providing additional coaches to those long distance trains where the rush is more. We hope to get positive response,” he said.

Railway officials said that keeping in mind the convenience of the passengers, they have also decided to open an extra ticket booking counter, which will start functioning later this month.
