Heavy Rainfall Causes Flood-Like Situation Near Pardih Kali Temple in Jamshedpur, NH-33 Blocked

Jamshedpur, June 19: Torrential rainfall over the past 24 hours has brought life to a standstill in several parts of Jharkhand, with the worst-hit areas being near Pardih Kali Temple and Fadlogoda under the Chandil police station limits.

In Jamshedpur, the India Meteorological Department recorded 152.4 mm of rainfall within a single day, triggering massive waterlogging and chaos across the region.

National Highways Choked, Vehicles Stranded for Hours

The continuous downpour resulted in severe waterlogging on the Tata-Ranchi National Highway and Tata-Purulia Road near Kali Temple. Long queues of stranded vehicles could be seen as traffic came to a grinding halt.

Trucks, buses, cars, and two-wheelers remained stuck in knee-to-waist-deep water for hours. Commuters were left helpless, with some abandoning their vehicles and walking to safer areas.

The traffic disruption was so severe that the administration had to intervene. Excavation machines were deployed to cut through parts of the Tata-Ranchi four-lane highway to enable water drainage. However, road conditions remained hazardous.

Ashiana Woodland Submerged, Thousands Affected

Ashiana Woodland Colony in Fadlogoda faced the brunt of the flooding. Water levels in the colony reportedly reached up to 15–20 feet, submerging all ground-floor flats.

Two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and even large vehicles like buses and trucks parked in the colony and on nearby roads were completely submerged. Thousands of residents are stranded, and rescue operations are being hampered by the high water levels.

NHAI Blamed for Drainage Failure

Local residents and public representatives have blamed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for the crisis. They allege that a natural drain near Fadlogoda was blocked by soil dumping under the ongoing Asanbani to Baliguma (Dimna) flyover project.

With no alternate drainage route, rainwater kept accumulating, resulting in the flood-like situation. Citizens have demanded strict action against NHAI and the construction agency, along with a permanent solution to prevent such disasters in the future.

Alternative Route and Police Deployment

In response to the traffic crisis, the district administration has diverted vehicles to an alternative route via Kandarbeda – Domuhani – Mango – Dimna Road.

Additional police forces have been deployed along the detour to manage the traffic and prevent further congestion.

Relief operations are underway, but the situation remains critical as heavy waterlogging continues to hamper rescue efforts.
