Jamshedpur : Incessant rain hit that the city on Friday morning has led to water clogging in the low-lying areas and throne life out of gear.
According to Meteorological office in Sonari, the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal is bringing good rainfall in the region and the situation is likely to remain the same in next 24 hours.
Areas like Mango, Jugsalai, Baghbera, Pardih have been worst hit. Water clogging at these areas has made difficult for people to move. Most of the roads are dotted with stalled vehicles, adding to the chaos. In some low lying areas several autos have been reported stranded in water.
The city has turned into a motorists’ nightmare. Many roads are undergoing concretisation and pipeline is being laid in several areas like Jugsalai and Baghbera. As a result the motorists have faced hell during rains. Many motorists have found it difficult to distinguish between the road and the dug up place due to water clogging.
Meanwhile resident of Jugsalai complained of water clogging and heap of garbage spread in several nooks and corners of the areas.
The monsoon is in its full fury in the Chottanagpur plateau region. For the next two days it will lashed the city mercilessly. The monsoon is being a relief from the scorching summer heat and people do not mind at all being inconvenienced as they were prepared for such an eventuality, said official Meteorological office
The forecast for the next 48 hours said rain/thundershowers would occur at most places over Chottanagpur plateau region and at many places over interior Singhbhum. Moderate to rather heavy rain would occur at most places over all the districts of Kolhan.
Meanwhile residential localities of Old Sitaramdera (Sitaramdera), Refugee Colony (Golmuri), Nehru Colony (Kasidih) and Gurudwara Basti (Sakchi) shows that cleaning work has either been done in a half-hearted manner or not done completely.
The drain passing through Refugee Colony in Golmuri (a population of over 5,000) also bears the same tale of work done in a hurry as waste materials and garbage after being cleaned were found lying dumped on the side of the drain. The drain has water flowing from Tata Steel works and comes under command area of JNAC.
Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) special officer Dipak Sahay preferred to pass the blame to Jusco.
These drains carry water from the company and were supposed to have been cleaned by Jusco. We had got letter from Jusco that these drains had been cleaned. We will inspect these drains and lodge a complaint with Jusco for not doing the cleaning work properly, said the special officer.
