Jamshedpur: The monsoon system over eastern India has intensified with the formation of a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal regions of Odisha and West Bengal, triggering a forecast of heavy rainfall across Jharkhand in the coming days.
According to weather officials, the development is being driven by an upper air cyclonic circulation that is likely to bring widespread rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds to different parts of the state.
The forecast indicates a series of wet and stormy days: June 28: Heavy rainfall is expected in southern, central, and north-central Jharkhand. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds may disrupt normal life.
June 29: Very heavy rainfall is predicted over north-central and adjoining central districts, while heavy showers are likely to lash the southern, central, and north-western regions. June 30: Northern and north-western parts of the state are likely to experience heavy rainfall with continued thunderstorm and lightning activities. July 1: Heavy rainfall is forecast over north-eastern Jharkhand.
Officials have advised residents, particularly in vulnerable areas, to stay alert as gusty winds and lightning may pose risks to life and property.
Meanwhile, the Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) currently extends through Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Jhunjhunu, Bharatpur, Rampur, Sonipat, and Anup Nagar, reaching up to 29.0°N/70.0°E.
Rain statistics show that Jharkhand has so far received 283.9 mm of rainfall against a normal of 149.8 mm for this period, marking a surplus of 89 per cent.
