Ranchi, June 22: Monsoon has arrived in Jharkhand, marking its entry through the northern border district of Pakur. The Meteorological Department forecasts widespread rainfall across the state in the coming days, beginning with thunderstorms and strong winds in some areas on June 23. Regions around Ranchi may experience light to moderate showers during this period.
According to the Meteorological Center in Ranchi, heavy rainfall is anticipated in Jamtara, Deoghar, Dumka, Pakur, Godda, and Sahibganj on June 24, with a yellow alert issued for these districts. The forecast extends to heavy rains continuing in Deoghar, Dumka, Jamtara, Godda, Sahibganj, and Pakur on June 25 and 26.
From June 26 to 27, many areas of Ranchi, Bokaro, Dhanbad, and Santhal Pargana may also witness heavy rainfall.
In the past 24 hours, the Kolhan region received the highest rainfall, with Jagannathpur (Chaibasa) in West Singhbhum district recording 75 mm of rainfall, followed by Goilkera with approximately 43 mm. Ranchi, the capital city, received around 25 mm of rainfall during this period.
With the onset of monsoon, temperatures across all districts have dropped below 40 degrees Celsius, providing relief from the recent heatwave. Daltonganj recorded the highest temperature in the state at 39.4 degrees Celsius, while Ranchi saw its lowest maximum temperature for June at 30 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Center predicts that temperatures in the capital and surrounding areas will remain around 33-34 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
