Jamshedpur: Residents of Jharkhand should brace for a soggy spell ahead, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a fresh alert for very heavy rainfall in parts of the state. On Thursday, the weather office warned of intense monsoon activity, particularly over the south-western districts, urging residents to remain cautious.
According to the forecast, the heavy rainfall is expected to persist through June 27, affecting southern and central regions of the state. Accompanying the showers, thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds have also been predicted, potentially disrupting daily life and posing risks in exposed areas.
By June 28, the rainfall intensity is expected to shift slightly, with the south-western and north-central districts in the firing line. The threat of thunderstorms and gusty winds is expected to continue across Jharkhand.
Meteorological analysis indicates that the monsoon is steadily advancing, with its northern limit currently extending through Barmer, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Agra, Rampur, Bijnor, Karnal, Halwara, and reaching up to 33.0°N/70.5°E. This suggests a consistent push of monsoonal winds further northward.
Several weather systems are contributing to the intensified rainfall outlook. A cyclonic circulation is currently hovering over northeast Madhya Pradesh at an altitude of 5.8 km, showing a distinct southward tilt. In addition, another upper air cyclonic circulation persists over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha–West Bengal coasts, extending up to 7.6 km with a southwestward tilt.
The IMD has also indicated the likelihood of a low-pressure area developing in this region within the next 24 hours. Should this system materialize, it could further enhance rainfall activity over Jharkhand in the coming days.
Authorities have advised people to stay alert, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, and take precautions against lightning and strong winds. Disaster management teams are also on standby to deal with any emergencies that may arise due to the adverse weather.
