Heatwave forces schools in Jamshedpur to revise timings

Jamshedpur, April 23: With temperatures soaring across Jharkhand, several private schools in Jamshedpur have revised their class timings to ensure the safety and well-being of students. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for parts of the state, including Jamshedpur, warning of high temperatures and humidity that may cause severe discomfort, especially during afternoon hours.

The city has been reeling under intense heat, with day temperatures hovering around 41°C. Jamshedpur recorded the highest reading of the season on April 22 with 43°C.

The IMD has forecast that heatwave conditions will intensify further in the coming days, with the possibility of thunderstorms and gusty winds on April 26. Amid this warning, schools have proactively adjusted their schedules.

Loyola School has altered the timetable for classes from nursery to fifth. According to Principal Father Vinod Fernandes, the junior section, which previously ended at 1:30 pm, will now close at 12 noon starting Wednesday. He added that if temperatures continue to rise, all classes will shift to the morning shift, running from 7 am to 12 noon.

Vidya Bharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya has also changed its junior section timings. The new reporting time is 6:45 am, and school will now close at 11:30 am. Similarly, DBMS Kadma High School has revised its dismissal timings. Nursery and LKG students will leave at 11 am, while UKG to Class 5 students will be dismissed at 11:50 am. The reporting time, however, remains unchanged.
