Heat wave : Jamshedpur citizens urged to take precautions

Jamshedpur, June 6: The scorching heat wave continues to prevail in Jamshedpur and across the entire state of Jharkhand. According to the weather department, relief from the heat is not expected anytime soon. There is no sign of rain until June 11, leaving people with no respite. Furthermore, the monsoon season is also distant.

On Tuesday, in Jamshedpur, the highest temperature was recorded until 2:30 pm, reaching a scorching 41.4 degrees Celsius, setting a new record. The humidity also peaked at 37 percent at 10:30 am. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature on Tuesday morning until 8:30 am was 27.2 degrees Celsius.

Concerning the heat wave, the weather department has issued an alert. According to the alert, most parts of the state are under the grip of the heat wave. Yellow alerts have been issued on Tuesday for Jamshedpur, along with Saraikela-Kharsawan, Kharagpur, Jamtara, Dumka, Deoghar, Godda, Pakur, and Sahebganj. On Wednesday, yellow alerts have been issued for Sahibganj, Godda, Pakur, Dumka, Deoghar, Jamtara, Giridih, Khunti, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, Ranchi, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Saraikela-Kharsawan, and surrounding areas, due to the heatwave. Additionally, the heatwave conditions will persist in the region until June 10 and 11.

According to the meteorological experts, the region has been experiencing unusually high temperatures, with the mercury touching 42 degrees Celsius today. The heat wave has affected various aspects of daily life, including outdoor activities, transportation, and overall public health.

The relentless heat has prompted health officials to issue advisories, urging people to stay hydrated, avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours, and seek shelter in cool places whenever possible. The elderly, young children, and individuals with underlying health conditions are particularly vulnerable and are advised to take extra care.

Local authorities have set up heat shelters and provided water stations at strategic locations across the city to assist those in need. They have also increased patrols and monitoring to ensure the safety and well-being of the public.
