Health minister stresses on rural health amenities

Ranchi: The state health minister Rajendra Prasad Singh today said that a decline had been registered in the maternal mortality rate and the infant mortality rate. He said there were still many remote interior areas in the state where doctors were still far from reaching the people. He said there was an urgent need to provide health facilities to the rural people.

The health minister was speaking during the inaugural session of a programme on maternal and child health organized in the state Capital. He said the state government was providing necessary facility for ensuring safe delivery through sahiyas. He said still many rural women were facing difficulty in undergoing safe delivery. There is need to improve the way deliveries are carried out in the rural areas, he said.

Singh said the medical facilities were still beyond the reach of half of the rural population. He said much had been done to improve rural medical facilities in the last six months. He said much more work will be done in the coming days.

The director of National Rural Health Mission Dr Manish Ranjan said there were many challenges before the state health department as it had too much work to be done to lower the rate of maternity and infant mortality rate.
