Chaibasa, Aug5: All ANMs, GNMs and other contract workers of the health department observed one days token strike putting all healthcare services in the district in disarray. Contract workers posted in various hospitals of the district were disgruntled accusing the government of turning a deaf ear to their demands. The striking contract health workers included ANMs, GNMs, X Ray and other technicians, pharmacists and all other workers employed under RBSK organized a sit in strike in the Sadar hospital premises. As a result all tests for blood, urine and others were shelved for the day.
The agitated health workers contended that they risked their lives while caring for COVID positive patients, staying away from home and families and standing the risk of themselves getting infected but the measly honorarium given to them needed to be revised. They said that they had been trying to convince the government but no positive result had come their way.
They alleged that during the prevailing pandemic, they had lost a few of their colleagues suddenly due to serious ailments but the government had not cared to give any compensation or financial relief or avenues for employment to their dependents. We have placed our genuine demands including our pleas for adjustment of our service regulations through our union but our pleas have not been heard. Today was a days symbolic strike. But if the government does not hear us or accede to our demands, we would be forced to go on an indefinite strike for which the government and department will have to take the blame.
