Over 5700 participate in the run from 18 states of India
Jamshedpur, Nov 5: The 8th edition of Tata Steel Jamshedpur Run-a-thon 2023 kicked-off at JRD Tata Sports Complex today. The theme for this year was “Fitness is Fun, Just Run”.
The 10-KM run was flagged off by Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President Corporate Services, Asian Games Silver Medallist Jyothi Yaraji and Ruchi Narendran. T V Narendran, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Steel participated in the 10-KM Run boosting the morale of runners and sending a message of fitness amongst citizens of Jamshedpur. Kishor Kaushal, Senior Superintendent of Police (East Singhbhum) also graced the occasion.
Avneesh Gupta, Vice President TQM and Engineering & Projects, Tata Steel, D B Sundara Ramam Vice President (Raw Materials), Tata Steel, Atrayee Sanyal, Vice President (Human Resource Management), Tata Steel, Uttam Singh, Vice President Iron Making, Tata Steel Probal Ghosh, Vice President Shared Services, Mukul Choudhary, Chief Sports Tata Steel along with Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary, President Tata Workers’ Union (TWU) and other dignitaries graced the occasion.
Over 5,700 people participated in the run across three competition categories – 10-KM, 7-KM & 5-KM and non-competitive 2-KM Fun Run. This edition of run-a-thon witnessed participation from 18 states, namely, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Bihar, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Haryana, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.
This time, Jamshedpur Run-a-thon had also introduced Pacers with three category of pacer buses to help runners achieve their personal best run time as practised in major marathons and running events.
Hari Singh (Men) and Renu Singh (Women) won the 10K event at the Jamshedpur Run-a-thon. Each received a cash prize of Rs 51 thousand.
This edition of the Run also witnessed an expo at JRD Tata Sports Complex. Brands such as Natural Foods, Organic Health Shop, Fast&Up (energy partner), and Nexa (Maruti Suzuki), Ramada, Skechers (running partner), Groats, Ginger-IHCL (as hospitality partner) among several others will be participating in the expo.
This year too, the company will plant one sapling for each registered participant to promote sustainability.
Jamshedpur Run-a-thon is a corporate event of Tata Steel which is organised every year to instill the sense of fitness among the citizens of Jamshedpur.
Encouragement and support for sports at Tata Steel dates back nearly a century and is part of its culture. Tata Steel has been one of the foremost corporate promoters of Indian sports – having built academies for football, archery, athletics, hockey and sport climbing. In addition to the Jamshedpur Run-a-thon, Tata Steel has over the years championed the cause of fitness through several Run properties like Tata Steel Kolkata 25K Run, Bhubaneswar Half Marathon and Noamundi Run-a-thon across its operating locations to engage with the community through Sports.
This run also saw participation from PwDs which were enabled by SABAL and Aidkriya organisations.
The next corporate run is scheduled at Joda (Odisha) on November 26 and at Kolkata on December 17.
