Halted pipeline work in Jamshedpur draws strong opposition, meeting held

Jamshedpur: Leaders from various social organisations and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Jugsalai unit met officials of the Jugsalai Municipal Council on Wednesday to express strong concern over the repeated stoppage of the 4-inch water pipeline project in Shafiganj. The delegation sought clarity from the authorities on why the sanctioned pipeline work, intended to benefit nearly 50 households, is being obstructed despite administrative approval and ongoing installation.

The delegation included representatives from the Sangharsh Shanti Samiti and the Shaheed Thakur Ji Pathak Welfare Society (National Wing), accompanied by BJP district and Mandal leaders such as Hanu Jain, Alok Vajpai, Vijay, Subodh Jha, Pawan, and others. They demanded urgent intervention to ensure uninterrupted continuation of the essential civic project.

It may be recalled that two years ago, residents of Shafiganj, supported by the Welfare Society and senior BJP members, had organised a major protest and road blockade highlighting severe water scarcity in the area. Following the agitation, the government sanctioned the 4-inch pipeline project, and work was initiated earlier this month. However, the installation process has been halted multiple times in recent days, allegedly due to external interference.

During the meeting, Municipal Council  officer Sandeep Paswan assured the delegation that the pipeline work would soon resume. He informed that the matter is being forwarded to the Public Works Department (PWD) to address technical and administrative challenges and reaffirmed that the issues faced by Shafiganj  residents will be resolved on priority.

Speaking after the meeting, Jugsalai Block President Hanu Jain, who himself belongs to Shafiganj , said that the public development project will not be allowed to remain stalled under any circumstances. He stressed that access to clean water is a fundamental necessity, and unnecessary delays will not be tolerated.

Several BJP workers, local residents, and members of the Shaheed Thakur Ji Pathak Welfare Society were also present during the meeting. Residents expressed hope that the administration will now act swiftly to complete the long-delayed pipeline work and ensure relief to the affected families.

Shaheed Thakur ji Pathak Welfare Society national wing president Surya Pathak ji and secretary Chandra Pathak were among those present on the occasion.
