Jamshedpur, March 28: Police recovered a half-burnt body of a young man from Chudubudu Hill near Apo village in the Gobarghusi Panchayat of Patamda police station area in East Singhbhum district on Thursday morning.

Local villagers alerted the authorities upon finding the corpse. The police launched an investigation. Despite efforts to identify the victim, including consultations with villagers, no one came forward to claim the body.

Former village head Neelratan Pal recounted that women from the village noticed the body and informed him as he was returning from the forest with wood. The village head was informed who in turn informed the police who launched an inquiry into the incident.

Due to the advanced state of decomposition and the foul odor emanating from the body, authorities enlisted the help of village volunteers to transport the remains to the mortuary for further examination. Blood stains found at the scene and traces of color on the body led investigators to suspect foul play, with speculation arising that the youth was murdered on the day of Holi and subsequently burned to conceal evidence.

In their efforts to identify the victim, the police have initiated a search for missing individuals in the surrounding localities.
