Haldia Station begins major upgrade under Amrit Bharat Scheme

Mail News Service

Kolkata, Nov 19: Haldia Station in East Midnapur district is undergoing a significant transformation under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, an initiative aimed at modernising railway stations across the country. The scheme reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to creating cleaner, more comfortable and future-ready transport hubs.

A senior South Eastern Railway official said, “The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is not just about infrastructure. It is about improving the overall travel experience for every passenger.” He added that detailed station-wise plans are being executed in phases to address specific local needs.

Haldia, a major industrial and port city, is a key terminal on the Panskura–Haldia branch line and caters to both passenger and freight movement. Its redevelopment under the Kharagpur Division is expected to boost regional connectivity and support local economic growth.

As part of the upgrade, the station building is being renovated and a new façade with an extended porch is planned. Additional improvements include a redesigned circulating and parking area, new entry and exit gates, renovated waiting rooms and toilets and enhanced platform shelters and surfaces. Passenger-friendly features such as Divyangjan facilities—ramps, water booths, Braille signage, tactile pathways and accessible booking counters—will be integrated.

The station will also feature a baby feeding room, a reserved lounge and artwork reflecting local culture. “Our goal is to make Haldia Station cleaner, more convenient and truly passenger-centric,” the official added.
