Guru Tegh Bahadur’s Shaheedi Diwas observed in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Nov 28: The Sikh community observed Guru Tegh Bahadur’s Shaheedi Diwas by organising a series of events in gurdwaras across the city. Devotees observed this valuable day with great enthusiasm and love paying their tribute to the Sikh Guru. Special shabad kirtan were organanised at Sakchi, Jugsalai and Bistupur Gurudwaras.

Guru Tegh Bahadur was born on 21 April 1621 in Amritsar, Punjab and took his last breath on 24 November in the year 1675 in Delhi when he was executed publicly by the Mughal Emperor at that time Aurangzeb. The Sikh Guru was hanged to death in Chandni Chowk, New Delhi for opposing the enforcement of religious persecution policy.

His execution and cremation sites in Delhi, Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib and Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib, later became Sikh sacred places.

The ninth Sikh Guru Tegh Bahadur who was a warrior and a great poet served from the year 1665 till 1675 when he died. He founded the city Anandpur Saheb and protested against the forced conversion to Islam during the rule of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.

“Today is the martyrdom day of our guru and a historic day for us all. Our guru sacrificed his life for us and that is why we have gathered at gurudwara to pay our respects,” said Balbir Singh, a devotee at Bistupur gurudwara.
