
Jamshedpur: A specially designed palki (palanquin) that is on a countrywide `yatra’ starting Bidar in Karnataka, reached Jamshedpur on Monday. The yatra has been taken out to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak this year. Sikh devotees in large numbers led by Central Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee ( CGPC) welcomed the yatra.

The journey organised by a Bidar based unit of Gurudwara will cover 19 Indian states and is also scheduled to go to Pakistan. In city, the yatra will visit Burmamines, Jugsalai and other areas on Tuesday.

Gurumukh Singh Mukhe, president CGPC said, �To mark the 550th birth anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Ji, a countrywide Yatra is being organised by Gurudwara Sri Nanak Jhira Saheb, Bidar (Karnataka). The Gurudwara has planned the nationwide journey to cover 19 states starting. We are really happy that the Yatra has reached out city.

�The Palki on Mahindra Furio vehicle is specially designed to keep the �Sukhashan’ (holy resting place) inside the palanquin. Many religious organisations have come forward towards the cause.

The Yatra, meant to spread the message of Guru Nanak Dev Ji all overthe country for the mankind. In a specially-designed palanquin, the Yatra started from Gurudwara Takht Sachkhand Hazur Sahib with mounting of Shri Guru GranthSahib Ji.

To welcome the Yatra, there were hoardings displayed at various places in the city. Prasad (sacred food) was also distributed to the people on the occasion.

Satnam Singh of Sikh Youth Federation said that Guru Nanak Dev ji taught Sikhs to welfare. One of the divine virtues that Nanak taught his Sikhs is to assimilate.

The Palki on a truck size vehicle is specially designed to keep the religious concept and values intact. A �Sukhashan’ (holy resting place) has also been kept inside the palanquin.
