Jamshedpur: Gurmukh Singh Mukhe defeated his sole rival Seva Singh by a margin of 241 votes in the election held on Sunday for the post of Pradhan of Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurudwara Sahib, Mango.
There were a total of 1344 voters in the Gurudwara committee as per the list of voting members. But only 750 votes were cast in today�s polls, out of which three votes were cancelled by the election observers during counting.
Police personnel were deputed in large numbers at the election venue in view of threat of a law and order problem arising during election. Earlier, Mukhe and his rivals had fallen out on the election issue. The situation had turned violent, leading the Gurudwara committee and district police officials to exercise precautionary measures on the day of election.
The polling process started at 9 am and continued till 4 pm. Gurmukh Singh Mukhe was allotted the symbol of a lion while Seva Singh was given the symbol of a weighing balance.
Mukhe said he will work for the welfare of all members and ensure that development works are carried out on a larger scale. He was congratulated by the committee members on his victory.
