Gumla Coldest at 2.2°C as Cold Wave Grips Jharkhand; Chill to Continue for Next 48 Hours

Jamshedpur (Mail News Service): Jharkhand continued to reel under an intense cold wave on Tuesday, with Gumla recording the lowest minimum temperature in the state at a freezing 2.2 degrees Celsius. According to weather officials, the cold wave is expected to persist across several districts for the next 48 hours, bringing harsh night and early morning conditions.

Night temperatures dipped sharply below normal across many parts of the state. Apart from Gumla, Khunti recorded a minimum of 3.7°C, Hazaribagh settled at 3.8°C, while Lohardaga and Koderma reported minimum temperatures of around 3.9°C, indicating the widespread impact of the cold spell.

The state capital, Ranchi, recorded a minimum temperature of 7.2°C and experienced dense fog during the morning hours. Jamshedpur, though relatively warmer, also felt the winter chill with the mercury dipping to 9.3°C. Bokaro Thermal recorded 6.7°C, while Daltonganj cooled down to 4.6°C overnight.

Day temperatures showed a mixed trend across Jharkhand. Chaibasa emerged as the warmest location in the state, registering a maximum temperature of 24.8°C, while most other districts remained relatively cool under prevailing cold conditions.

The India Meteorological Department confirmed cold wave conditions in Gumla, Lohardaga, Khunti, Koderma, Bokaro, Hazaribagh, and Chaibasa. Foggy conditions were reported in Ranchi, Daltonganj, and Deoghar. No rainfall was recorded anywhere in the state during the past 24 hours.

Weather officials have advised residents, particularly in colder districts, to take necessary precautions as low night temperatures and cold wave conditions are likely to continue over the next few days.
