Ranchi, March 24: Reviewing the Agriculture Department, Chief Secretary Raj Bala Verma today directed the authorities concerned to buy seeds from seed villages by 31st March and store them properly. After procurement, sample seeds should be sent to labs and only after being assured of their quality, they should be processed and packed in bags, she said.
Verma said that three lakh quintal seeds have been produced in 516 seed villages. “Seeds should be procured fast so that we need not purchase it from other sources. Those farmers who have not given their mobile numbers should give at the earliest and the payment should be done through RTGS,” she said.
During the review meeting, it was decided to take help of ARYA and Krishi Mitra who would help farmers cultivate, sow and harvest at the rate of Rs 500 per hectare. One ARYA or Krishi Mitra should be selected in every panchayat to become fertilizer dealer and provided loan according to Standup India Scheme, the CS said.
The CS said that agriculture schemes should be laid down for completely barren land and pulses and maize should be grown there. She said that 20 lakh farmers should be connected with Fasal Beema Yojana (Crop Insurance Scheme) in the current fiscal.
“Cooperative officers and agriculture officers should hold meeting at district level and KCC should be converted into Rupay card. Also, soil testing should be done at the earliest and Mini Soil Testing Lab should be provided in all labs. By now, 61,608 soil tests are conducted and 1.6 lakh soil health cards have been distributed. Horticulture should also be promoted,” said Verma.
Agriculture Secretary Nitin Madan Kulkarni and other senior bureaucrats were also present at the meeting.
