Govind Vidyalaya Jamshedpur Founder Dr. Brahm Dutt Sharma Passes Away

Jamshedpur: The city’s academic and social circles are in mourning following the demise of Dr. Brahm Dutt Sharma, the founder and director of Govind Vidyalaya. Dr. Sharma, a distinguished educationist and philanthropist, passed away peacefully at his residence, “Brahm Niwas,” at 3:00 AM on April 7. He was 85.

The Govind Vidyalaya family paid a tearful tribute to their mentor, remembering him as a man of extraordinary resilience whose principles and vision shaped the lives of thousands.

A Legacy in Education

Dr. Sharma’s journey in education began in 1960 at Guru Nanak School, Mango. He rose through the ranks to serve as Principal, and after retirement, he founded Govind Vidyalaya in Tamolia. His mission was to create an institution that offered a unique and holistic approach to learning.

Colleagues recall his unwavering dedication; notably, during the school’s early years, Dr. Sharma—a chronic asthma patient—traveled to Delhi in the peak of a “bone-chilling December” to secure the institution’s first affiliation, prioritizing the school’s future over his own health.

Contributions to Literature and Society

Beyond the classroom, Dr. Sharma was a prominent figure in literature and community service:

  • Literary Work: He served as the editor of the Rajasthani magazine Kurjan for several years and received numerous awards for his literary contributions.

  • Social Leadership: He founded and presided over the Rajasthan Navyuvak Sangh, through which he channeled significant financial and social support to various organizations.

School officials stated that Dr. Sharma continued to inspire his teaching staff even in his final days, maintaining his role as a lifelong mentor.

The passing of Dr. Brahm Dutt Sharma marks the end of an era in Jamshedpur’s educational history, leaving a void that the community acknowledges will be impossible to fill.
