Government team to review leprosy conditions in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Nov 16: A team from the Central Review Mission (CRM) of the Government of India will visit Jamshedpur on November 26 to assess the condition of leprosy patients and the ongoing welfare schemes in East Singhbhum district. The District Leprosy Department is preparing for the visit and will take the necessary steps to facilitate the team’s inspection.

Led by District Leprosy Prevention Officer Dr. Mrityunjay Dhavadia, the CRM team will visit various blocks of the district to meet leprosy patients and gather information regarding their treatment and the schemes provided for their benefit. The information collected will be submitted to the department for further action.

Recently, a comprehensive leprosy investigation campaign uncovered 147 new patients out of 1,147 suspects. The highest number of cases, totaling 34, were found in the urban area of Jamshedpur, followed by patients in areas like Chakulia (6), Baharagora (12), Dhalbhoomgarh (15), Ghatshila (14), Musabani (8), Dumariya (9), Potka (23), Jugsalai (17), and Patamda (7). These patients have already started receiving treatment.

In response to the findings, the department has received instructions to expedite the ongoing investigation. Medical officers in the affected areas, including Chakulia, Baharagora, Ghatshila, Musabani, Dumariya, Potka, Jugsalai, and Patamda, have been urged to speed up the process.

Furthermore, leprosy patients receive Rs 500 monthly, directly credited to their accounts. Their family members also receive Rs 100 per person after testing, ensuring that both the patients and their families are supported in their efforts to combat the disease.
