Government to complete 167 minor irrigation schemes by 2017: CS

Ranchi, Nov. 2: Laying stress on completing qualitative and time-bound irrigation projects, Jharkhand Chief Secretary Raj Bala Verma today said that the work should be done and monitored properly.

She said that DPR should be prepared for the new schemes and surveyed through determining agencies.She said so while reviewing the work of Water Resource Department.

Verma directed the officials concerned to prepare DPR by November and complete the tender process by January. She said the ongoing schemes should be completed on priority basis. At the same time she directed the officials to do groundwork for the forthcoming budget so that timely work could be started on the schemes. Places should be selected for surface irrigation, she said.

Underlining the need for making small check dams, the CS said that a success story of the irrigation department should be made by the Information and Public Relation Department.

The department officials informed that 167 small irrigation schemes have been targeted to complete covering 8000 hectare area in different sectors. It was also informed that Surangi and Nakati water reservoir projects are targeted to be completed in December.

Water Department Principal Secretary Sukhdev Singh said that the department has profiled 1833 schemes against 2500 minor irrigation schemes.

Moreover, 300 middle irrigation schemes have been identified for irrigation. Tender for 728 schemes have been completed against 794 check dams and work has been started on 457. 86 schemes have been completed so far.
