Government to build offices for SHGs with Rs 1 crore turnover: CM

Ranchi, Sept. 23: Chief Minister Raghubar Das today said the state government, in a bid to ensure Jharkhand�s steady development, was planning to build office and basic infrastructure for self help groups (SHGs) having a turnover of Rs 1 crore annually. He also said that the loan amount being given to SHGs will be doubled from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 crore.

Das said that bank authorities had been consulted in this regard. He made the announcement while addressing the first session of Chhota Nagpur Divisional Conference of mukhiyas, panchayat secretariat sevaks and women SHGs of 31 blocks of five districts.

The CM said that the role of women was vital and indispensable from development point of view. There can�t be comprehensive development of the state without making the women self-dependent, he observed.

�Women should be made the harbinger of development. In order to achieve this, more employment opportunities should be developed in villages. Agriculture, gardening and animal husbandry are also key areas. We can reach the destination of development through these routes,� the CM said.

Das went on to suggest that villages having electricity should implement lift irrigation schemes in order to derive maximum benefit.

Emphasizing on pulse production along with rice, he said that pulses will eradicate malnutrition. He said that SHGs should make the malnourished women aware about uses and benefits of pulses, greens and vegetables.

He asked women SHGs to make a list of migrating people so that the government could train them and provide them livelihood opportunities. The government is going to issue a helpline number division-wise. MoUs have been signed with many companies for training the youths and later employing them, he said.

The CM said that the government was trying to establish cottage industries on a massive scale. �SHGs should prepare different articles under Aajeevika and the government will ensure that they get market for that. For example the government is going to set up a market in Gumla on the lines of Ranchi to sell cottage industry products. He said that 2017-18 will be celebrated as Women Entrepreneur Year.

Later on the occasion, the CM handed cheques worth over Rs 10 lakh to each bereaved family of the two Army jawans, Nayman Kujur and Jhavar Munda, killed in the recent Uri Army base terrorist attack. He also announced that the Chainpur- Kurumgad-Baridih road will be named after Nayman Kujur. Gumla DC has been directed to make DPR of the 35 km road.

Union Minister of State Sudarshan Bhagat said that agriculture and forest produce will herald economic revolution in the state.

He said that along with women SHGs, men will also have to come forward to elevate the income at individual and village level.

Women SHGs are bringing about a new awareness in the society and making their families and society self dependent.

Keep away from drinking: Dr. Dinesh Oraon

Speaker of Jharkhand Legislative Assembly Dr Dinesh Oraon said that liquor is a hindrance in development. People should be made aware about hazards of alcoholism.

Men and women at village, panchayat and block level will have to work together to prosper. He said that Jharkhand will prove a milestone in development and the role of women in this endeavour will be appreciated.

Women SHGs are inspiration for society: CS

Addressing the women SHGs, Raj Bala Verma said that Women SHGs are inspiration for the society. Their efforts are positive and they are working for economic prosperity of society. They can be a decisive factor in the pace of development, she said.

Calling on successful women she said that they should lead while taking along other women left behind them.

Organization gives power and connects with resources. Village problems should be considered and network of cottage industries should be developed.

She summoned them to stop child marriage, girl migration and superstition related to �witchcraft�. She further stressed that children should be immunized, given nutritious food and pregnant women should be given ANC on time.

Rural Development Minister Nilkanth Singh Munda, MLAs Shivshankar Oraon, Vimla Pradhan, CS Mrs. Raj Bala Verma, Development Commissioner Amit Khare, RDD Principal Secretary N. N. Sinha, Drinking Water and Sanitation Principal Secretary A. P. Singh, Panchayati Raj Sec. Vandana Dadel, Agriculture Secretary Nitin Madan Kulkarni along with other officers were present on this occasion.
