Jamshedpur : Train services on the Tatanagar-Chakradharpur-Adra section of South Eastern Railway were badly hit due to the derailment of a goods train near Purulia on Tuesday morning.
Movement of several trains including Purulia-Jhargram Birsa Munda Express, and Asansol-Tata Passenger, which travels through the Tatanagar railway station was hit.
According to railway sources, engine of a goods train carrying iron ore derailed at around 10.40 am near the Purulia railway station. Both down and up lines were affected by the derailment.
According to railway sources, the incident took place when loaded wagons and two engines of the goods train which was running at a speed of about 55 Kmph jumped off the tracks.
Soon after the derailment movement of trains Tatanagar-Chakradharpur-Adra section on the came to a grinding halt.
Railway authorities said that it may take a day to restore normal service in that section. “As per our Initial probe suggested that there is no role of Maoists in the mishap.
It’s a simple case of derailment. An accident relief train from Bengal has reached the site and derailment operation is being carried out in full swing ,” said an official.
