Jamshedpur: Parsudih police arrested a goldsmith, identified as Ajit Kumar, a resident of Mango, on Saturday for allegedly purchasing jewelry stolen from Kailashnagar under Parsudih PS.
Police said the accused had purchased the jewelry stolen from the house of Prashant Kumar. The stolen jewelry has been recovered.
Cops said they got the tip-off about Ajit�s involvement on the basis of information furnished by Sonu Mishra of Barigora who was arrested on 3rd November last in connection with the theft.
The officer in-charge of Parsudih Animesh Gupta said Ajit had been purchasing stolen jewelry for the last two years. The total worth of the jewelry recovered from his possession is Rs 3 lakh, he said.
The goldsmith reportedly confessed his offence in police interrogation. Cops also recovered two stolen LCD TVs from another place. They said the other members of the gang include Abhishek, Golu and Karan Sao. The gang used to steal jewelry in Parsudih, Birsanagar, Sundernagar, telco and Govindpur, police said.
