Jamshedpur, March 13: A total of 133 government high schools in the East Singhbhum district will commence yoga classes from the next session. Along with the girl students, boys will also have to participate in yoga sessions.
A proposal has been prepared by National Secondary Education Campaign for this purpose. The yoga classes will commence after the expenditure is approved in the Union Budget for the 2016-17 fiscal.
According to the proposal prepared by the department, yoga classes will be held in school for one month in the first stage. Later, the students will be required to practice yoga at their homes.
The main objective for starting yoga classes in schools is to make students physically and mentally healthy, in addition to imparting academic knowledge.
Keeping the alarming rise is eve-teasing incidents and to make the girl students physically strong, the state government is also planning to give martial arts training to girl students in high school.
The duration of the martial arts training will be of three months for which the state government would provide Rs 9000 each to the schools. A monitoring system will also be developed by the government to ensure that the money is utilized properly.
�To make the girl students self-independent along with making them physically and mentally strong, the state government has made plans to provide martial arts and yoga training to girls in the school.
The plan has not yet included boys, but they will also be trained in yoga. The expenditure in this regard will be included in the next state financial budget,� said Mukesh Kumar Sinha, district education officer, East Singhbhum.
