Ghatsila MLA Ramdas Soren to take oath as Jharkhand minister today

Jamshedpur: A day after former Chief Minister Champai Soren quit Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and submitted his resignation as minister to Governor Santosh Gangwar, Ghatsila legislator Ramdas Soren was announced as his successor.

According to close sources in the Jharkhand Raj Bhavan, Chief Minister Hemant Soren has sent a letter to the governor requesting that the Ghatsila legislator be administered the oath as a minister.

The oath-taking ceremony for Ramdas Soren is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Friday.

Ramdas confirmed to the media that he had received a call from the Chief Minister’s office, informing him that he would be taking responsibility for all the ministerial positions previously held by Champai before his resignation from the party.

The 61-year-old Ghatsila legislator will take charge of the Higher and Technical Education and Water Resources Ministries.

At the time Ramdas takes the oath as a state minister, Champai will be officially joining the BJP.

The JMM chose Ramdas as their replacement for Champai because he is an influential tribal leader in the Kolhan region. Ramdas has been elected as the MLA from the Ghatsila Assembly constituency twice—first in 2009 and again in 2019.

Like Champai, Ramdas was very close to Dishom Guru and JMM supremo Shibu Soren. He was closely associated with Guruji and Champai during the Jharkhand movement. This is the first time Ramdas is being given a ministerial position by the JMM.
