Jamshedpur, March 10: District health committee has urged the health professionals and other frontline workers to get them inoculated with COVID vaccine soon. The appeal was made at a meeting held at district headquarters. The meeting was held to review the status of Covid-19 vaccination drive.
“Those who took the vaccine did not feel any uneasiness. Rather, the vaccine gave them more strength to fight the virus. All the medical and para-medical staff must get the vaccines which are being provided free of cost by the government,” said an official.
The COVID cases are on the rise in the district. Given the scenario, health workers can treat patients without fear if they get themselves vaccinated, he said.
The Covid-19 vaccines are being given free of cost at the MGM Medical College Hospital, Sadar Hospital in Khasmahal and at all the primary health centers from March 1. Those belonging to the age-group 45-59 years with comorbidity and people above 60 years are getting the vaccines.
The Covid-19 vaccines for Rs 250 per recipient in the steel city, one of the health hubs has decided to administer the vaccine to some sections of people free of charge. The health hub which is going to provide the Covid-1009 vaccines free of cost is Ganga Memorial Hospital at Sankosai in Mango.
Those who will be entitled to get the vaccine free of charge are family members of Army staff, people belonging to below poverty line (BPL), handicapped person and the lepers.
Dr N Singh who is the director of the Ganga Memorial Hospital said the beneficiaries are required to get their names registered from 9 am and they will be administered the vaccines the next day.
The Union Health Ministry informed that the nationwide vaccination program is now expanded to all citizens above 60 years of age. Citizens within the age group of 45 to 59 years with specific comorbidities are eligible for the Covid-19 vaccine.
