Geeta Theatre’s ‘Matdaan Re’ awareness video for young voters

Jamshedpur, August 18: Geeta Theatre has come up with a video shot in street play (Nukkad Natak) format, ‘Matdaan Re’ targeted at young voters’ awareness on the important constitutional responsibility of exercising their right and responsibility to franchise. The video also explores avenues to raise keenness among voters to cast their votes. The video, ‘Matdaan Re’ was being shared by Geeta Theatre on all its social media platforms to reach out to a larger segment of people including the young voters or those to attain the eligible age of 18 years to cast their votes.

Directed by Geeta Kumari in Nukkad Natak format, this 11 minute video explains the importance of casting one’s vote, not under fear or coercion or motivated by financial offers but as a responsibility for ensuring good, allround governance.

The play opens with two labourers slogging away when a politician enters and lures them with money to purchase their votes. One is too scared to either vote of fall into the money trap while the other is ready to side with the wily politician. At this point the narrator enters and convinces them to cast their votes without fear or any monetary considerations. The video play, ‘Matdaan Re’, shifts to a discussion on getting voter ID cards, the long queues at polling boots and, in general, the futility of the entire process of voting. The narrator enters as a teacher and listens to their complaints and makes them aware that getting Voter ID Cards and all polling related information had been simplified through Voter Helpline where one could apply for Voter Cards and get all information on the mobile phone. The young people realize the simplicity of getting Voter ID Cards and voting and the inherent responsibilities of exercising their voting rights.

Prem Dixit plays the narrator’s role with aplomb while Ria Sandil, Tushar Das Gupta, Samir Nandan and Alok Kumar put in sterling performances.
