Jamshedpur: Members of Akhil Vishwa Gayatri Parivar carried out a cleanliness drive on all river banks of the Ganga under its Nirmal Ganga Jan Samagra Swachhata Abhiyan on the occasion of Ganga Saptami on Tuesday.
Around 100 volunteers of the outfit from Tatanagar cleaned garbage from the banks of Swarnarekha river at various places across the city.
The cleanliness drive started at 6.30 am and continued till 11 am. Many people from different parts of the city participated in the programme.
The volunteers spread awareness on cleanliness by talking to people about the necessity and benefits of cleanliness and hygiene near the riverbanks. They collected water lilies, plastic waste, clothes and many other types of waste from the riverbank and disposed them.
Among those who participated in the campaign included Meena Kumari, JK Sachchan, Beena Devi, Savitri Singh, Sharda Singh, Chandrakala, Usha Pathak, JP Singh, Sudha, Kaushalya, Parvati, Seema Kumari, Varsha Kumari, Bharati Sah, Nootan, Asha, Indu Devi, Sita Ram Bhakat, Kamala Devi, Kameshwar and Arjun Sahu.
