Garbage, foul stench make life miserable for residents near MGM Hospital, Saryu Roy takes note

Jamshedpur, Sept 14: Residents of the colony adjacent to MGM College Hospital are struggling with unbearable stench and unhygienic conditions caused by medical and harmful waste from the hospital. Responding to repeated complaints, Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy visited the hospital on Sunday to assess the situation.

During his visit, Roy found the allegations true. He noted that though hospital waste had been cleaned the previous day and bleaching powder sprayed, the foul smell persisted. He observed that a drain carrying water from the nearby hills had been blocked in several places by the L&T company and damaged in portions. The wall between Hill View Colony and MGM Hospital was also broken, worsening the problem.

Residents informed Roy that an open toilet constructed by L&T near the boundary wall was adding to the misery, as waste from it flowed into the clogged drain, filling the area with unbearable stench. Retired Air Force personnel and other residents expressed their frustration, saying they were forced to keep windows shut throughout the day.

Roy discussed these issues with the Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent of MGM Hospital, both of whom acknowledged the shortcomings. He assured residents that he would hold a detailed meeting with hospital authorities on Monday, September 15, to find a permanent solution.

Colony residents urged that the hospital’s harmful and foul-smelling waste should not be dumped near their homes but instead disposed of safely away from residential areas. They warned that the current situation was not only inconvenient but also hazardous to health.

Community members including Naveen Singh, Shyam Singh, Satyendra Singh, Sanjeev Mukherjee, Neeraj Singh, Pintu Singh, Pappu Singh, Mastan Singh, Santosh Bhagat, Manoj Rai, Manoj Sharma, Vijendra Singh, and Bala Prasad were present with Roy during the inspection.
