Jamshedpur, Feb 7: For two months every year, Dr Nagendra Singh performs free surgeries at Ganga Memorial Hospital in memory of his mother for patients on the economic bottom rung. This year, his aim is to perform surgeries for 427 patients. He has already performed surgeries on five patients thus far, one among them been Sapia Khatun, a Kapali resident and housemaid who had been suffering from a three-kilogram tumor in her abdomen for the past two years. Being a widow and handicapped with financial constraints, she could not afford treatment. She was told that the estimated cost of her operation would be in the vicinity of Rs One lakh. However, she learned about the opportunity for free surgery at Ganga Memorial Hospital and immediately sought help of Dr Nagendra Singh. Her surgery has been successfully performed and expressing her gratitude, she said that Dr Nagendra Singh was a messiah. “Without his assistance, my surgery would not have been possible,” she stated.
Similarly, other patients underwent operations for various ailments including hydrocele, appendicitis, hernia, ovarian tumors, and tumors in the upper body. Dr. Nagendra Singh mentioned, “I conduct free surgeries for needy patients for two months every year in memory of my mother. The only expenses incurred are for tests and medicines, which are met by the patients themselves. This year, I aim to perform 427 free surgeries for poor patients suffering from ailments like gallstones, appendicitis, hernia, ovarian tumors, and other conditions.”
Dr. Nagendra Singh has performed more than 15 thousand free surgeries till date.
