Gang rape case: Police launch hunt for two unidentified youths

Jamshedpur, Jan 13: Kandra police on Wednesday launched a hunt for two unidentified youths who gang-raped a 21-year-old tribal girl at a forest stretch near Pindrabera village under Kandra police station area on Tuesday evening. The victim who is a resident of Pather Salem village in Kandra was raped by two criminals who dragged to the Pandrabera forest.

According to family members, after raping the girl, the criminals left her at the forest in the night, leading the victim to return home around midnight.  The family members immediately rushed to the Kandra police station and reported the incident, leading the police to swing into action to apprehend the culprits.

Sub-divisional police officer, Seraikela, Rakesh Ranjan who is looking after the investigation of the case said the girl was returned from a Pragya Kendra in Kandra in the evening when the criminals stopped her.

” We are investigating the incident. As per the statement of the girl, both the criminals were following the victim by riding a bike and intercepted her having overtaken her scooter at an isolated place,” said the SDPO.

Rakesh Ranjan said the two-wheeler was without registration number as the victim had tried to read the number.   According to police, there is no CCTV camera installed on the route from Kandra , but the police are scanning the footage of CCTV cameras at Kandra town as they suspect that the two criminals might have followed the movement of the girl from Kandra.
