Jamshedpur : In a shocking incident, villagers lynched a man suspecting him to be a child-lifter at Asanboni village under Jadugora thana area late last night.
The second case of lynching took place at about 10 pm while policemen from the Jadugora police station were patrolling at the Jadugora block, especially at the Ichra and Dukru villages where the local residents had lynched a 40-year-old man on suspecting him to be a child-lifter late on Wednesday night.
The body which bore marks of injuries on his face, head and other parts including chest, was yet to be identified.
The police have recovered the body and sent it to the MGM Medical College mortuary for post-mortem today.
Deputy superintendent of police (Mosabani) Ajit Kumar Vimal said that the second man who was lynched was a 32-year-old man.
“We are keeping a vigil in the night at Ichra and Dukru village where the lynching incident had taken place followed by thrashing of a 45-year-old man, the villagers lynched another man at Asanboni. We are making every possible efforts to prevent any such incidents. We need to educate the people,” said Vimal.
He said he and other police officers are moving around in the interior of Jadugora block and requesting the people not to pay heed to any rumour related to child-lifting.
Meanwhile, the police have let Saddam Ansari and Sujeet Sen to let go home as there was no evidence of them being indulged in any child-lifting case as had been alleged by the villagers.
OC, Jadugora, Uttam Kumar Tiwary said that both Saddam and Surjeet appeared to be a bit mentally disturbed.
Fear of alleged child-lifters gang gripped the people residing in tribal-dominated Jadugora block in Ghatshila sub-division since during which the furious people lynched a 40-year-old man and thrashed two other men before handing them to the Jadugora police station.
The one who was fatally injured in the thrashing and later succumbed to his injury at the MGM Medical College Hospital emergency was yet to be identified, but one of those in police custody was identified as Saddam Ansari (45), a resident of Mahulbera in Mosabani block in Ghatshila sub-division. The name and whereabouts of the third alleged child-lifter is yet to be ascertained.
According to sources, the villager mobilised support and caught the man having allegedly rescued an eight-year-old boy from his clutch.
Then the agitated villagers took the man to the adjoining Subernarekha bank where they thrashed mercilessly. The police rushed the injured to MGM Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injury.
OC, Jadugora Tiwary said as they were trying to get the identity of the lynching victim established, the people nabbed another man from near the Rakha Mines Kali temple and started beating him.
