Saraikela, Jan 20: Adivasi rituals are centered on worship of nature. Magey Parv or festival is celebrated by the Ho tribe among Adivasis in traditional obeisance to Mother Nature. Magey Parv was celebrated in Saraikela and other places including Paharpur, Vishnu Paduka, Nimdih and Sargidih over three days. In Sargidih, the three day Magey Parv concluded with prayers performed by Deori (priest) Ajay Tapey and Deori Mangal Tapey. Prayers were offered to the presiding deity Singbonga peace in the community and the world.
Prayers were offered to Luku Hudang and Luku Budhi who are considered the first couples of creation according to Ho tradition. Dance and music were performed throughout the night in which, among others Ward Parshad Jugal Tapey along with Dr Tapey, Uday Tiu, Jogo Tapey, Rajesh Tapey, Karan Tapey, Somay Tapey, Dibru Chatar and Samthan Munda were present.
The specialty of Magey Parv is that people from distant places visit friends and relatives on the occasion.
