Fresh low-pressure system over Bay of Bengal to trigger rain in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the formation of a fresh low-pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal around July 24, which is expected to bring widespread and intensified rainfall to Jharkhand and its adjoining regions in the coming days.

With the monsoon trough currently active and a developing low-pressure system in place, several parts of Jharkhand are likely to experience enhanced rainfall beginning July 24. The weather office has sounded alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning in isolated pockets. Citizens, especially those residing in low-lying and flood-prone areas, have been advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

Monsoon conditions across Jharkhand have remained active, with light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms being reported at multiple locations over the past 24 hours. Ramgarh recorded the highest rainfall during this period, registering 64.5 mm.

According to the IMD, the monsoon trough at mean sea level currently stretches from a well-marked low-pressure area over West Rajasthan and adjoining Pakistan and runs through Churu, Ayanagar (Delhi), Shahjahanpur, Lucknow, Patna, Bankura, and Digha, extending eastward into the northeast Bay of Bengal. Additionally, a secondary trough extending from central north Bihar to Odisha, cutting across Jharkhand at an altitude of 0.9 to 1.5 km above mean sea level, continues to persist and is expected to contribute to increased rainfall activity.
