Four tribal boys selected for Army Boys Sports Company

Jamshedpur, Sept 24: Four tribal boys of U-10 football coaching centre of TSRDS have hit their first milestone. Youths from the villages situated on the outskirts of Jamshedpur have been selected in Army Boys Sports Company, Bihar Regiment Centre-Danapur, an infantry of Indian Army.

Sameer Murmu and Azad Karmakar aged 14 and residents of Bhagabandh Village along with Jayram Hembram (14) of Chotabanki Village and Budhu Mardi (12) of Deoghar Village made it to the company following rigorous selection trials, first at State-level in Ranchi, and then at national-level in Danapur.

The quartets started their coaching in 2010 after they were spotted by Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS) during its Community football tournaments and since then they were trained at Gurma Football Centre.

At the state level selection trial in Ranchi 150 youths participated of which 30 were selected for national trail. During the national-level trial in Danapur 108 footballers from all over India participated and in the first round 30 was shortlisted including the four.

The final selection of 12 young talents was done which included 4 from Jharkhand.

Azad Karmakar, son of small farmer in Bhagabandh Village talking to the media persons on Thursday said, “It is a proud moment for me. Now sports and education will go hand in hand. My selection means a lot for me and my family”, he added.

Once the four turn 18, on the basis of their academic and sporting performance, and other fitness parameters, they will stand a chance of joining suitable ranks in the Bihar Regiment, an infantry of the Indian Army.
