Four combined Seraikela-Kharsawan police teams foil Maoist bid targeting police, 72 can bombs recovered

Jamshedpur, Aug 25: A major casualty was averted on Tuesday as the security personnel engaged in anti-Maoist operations recovered 72 can bombs and four rifles as well as a pistol beside other explosive materials.

The breakthrough to the Seraikela-Kharsawan police was made possible after naxal commanders Jitrai Munda and Jogen Purty who were arrested from Khunti district on Saturday informed the police about the plans.

Revealing about the achievement, Seraikela-Kharsawan superintendent of police, Mohammed Arshi at a press conference at Adityapur said that the naxals had laid can bombs in large numbers at Raisindri hill under Kuchai police station area for casualty to the police and paramilitary forces during the latters’ anti-insurgency operation.  He stated that apart from the can bombs, the rebels had also kept rifles and ammunition hidden in Jharjhara hills at Tamar in Ranchi district for the use against the police and paramilitary forces.

The police and paramilitary forces have also beefed up the naxal infested areas of the district. Sources informed that the police are frisking commuters in the bordering areas. At some places common people are also being interrogated by police and paramilitary forces on suspicion. Forces have been deployed in strategic locations. The district police have maintained that combing operation in the Maoist infested areas of the district will continue as usual and there is no let up whatsoever.

�Security has been beefed up in the area and they were keeping strict vigil on movement of the Naxalites. The plan is to keep a tab on the camps being operated by ultras,� said another official.

We are not much concerned about small acts of violence because these activities can be controlled by us, but the bigger attacks are worrisome,� said a security official.


�We cannot reveal the status of the operation due to security reasons but yes we are interrogating them to dig out further links,� said a district police official. He said that the forces are targeting the different areas under the Saranda forest.
