Jamshedpur: Bistupur police recovered the body of a youth, identified as Ankush Thakurta, a student of IMT Ghaziabad, from an under-construction building near Bistupur traffic square under mysterious conditions here on Saturday.
The body was found lying in the basement of the building. It lay on the stairs. Blood was found coming out of the ear and injury mark was found near the hips on the body, cops said.
Police said the incident transpired when the construction workers came in the morning to start the day’s work and found the body inside the building. Police was informed about the incident.
During preliminary investigation, police found the youth was a native of Rourkela and that he was doing his internship at the Bistupur branch of HDFC Bank. The deceased wore jeans, t-shirt, shoes and a watch. Cops found a mobile phone in the pocket of the deceased which helped them identify the youth.
The officer in-charge of Bistupur PS reached the scene and inquired about the incident from local shopkeepers and daily workers.
Cops informed the uncle of the deceased who lives in Rourkela about the incident. They suspect it could be a case of accidental fall from the building. However, cops have not ruled out foul play in the incident.
Police sent the body of the deceased to the morgue at Tata Main Hospital. The body would be sent to the MGM Medical College for postmortem examination.
Sources said the deceased had recently shifted to a 2BHK flat in the city after staying at a Bistupur-based hotel for a week. He had started his bank internship on 3rd April last at the Telco branch of HDFC Bank. He had bought an air cooler for his flat two days ago, sources said.
Police officials said they were trying to get clues into the death with the help of CCTV footage from nearby buildings where CCTV cameras are installed. Cops found a water bottle from the scene.
They suspect the deceased could have been accompanied by someone at the scene prior to his death. They also found out that certain people had a clash near Gitanjali Bar at N Road, Bistupur, which is close to the under-construction building where the youth was found dead.
Some people had rushed towards the building from the bar, police said.
