Jamshedpur: Former International Volley ball player and national volleyball team Coach Achutha Kurup passed away in Bengaluru on Tuesday. He was 75. He was part of the Tata Steel Volleyball from 1972 to 1973.
Kurup was the chief coach of Indian volleyball team in 1986. Country lost one of the best volleyball coach, said, Avinash Kumar, Hony. Secretary, JSA. After retirement, he concentrated on coaching budding volleyball players. He had also served as trainer at the Sports Authority of India (SAI). He is survived by wife Kusum, son Ananda Kurup and daughter Anuradha. His children too are noted Volleyball players.
