Ranchi: Junaid Alam, a former cleric at a madrasa in Jharkhand and a father of two children, has eloped with a minor girl from Aspur Devsara, Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district. Shockingly, the girl was also a student at the same madrasa. Her mother reported her disappearance to the police on September 17, prompting her father to file a complaint against the accused.
The incident unfolded in Atraura Meerpur, within the jurisdiction of the Aspur Devsara police station. Junaid Alam, who used to teach at a madrasa in Wajidpur, found himself at the center of a controversy. His wife, Nurul Nisha, arrived at the police station accompanied by their son, seeking justice.
The case gained attention when a phone conversation between the girl and the perpetrator went viral on social media. The girl’s mother alleged that the cleric had seduced her daughter while teaching at the madrasa. Subsequently, he clandestinely married her, and the two of them fled.
Nurul Nisha accused her husband of deceiving her and renting a room in Ambedkar Nagar before abandoning her there. He had reportedly told her that he would sell his land, purchase a Bolero vehicle, and drive to Lucknow. She lamented, “He left the house, claiming that he would go to Lucknow after selling the land, but we had no idea he would commit such a wrongdoing.” She later discovered that he had eloped with a 16-year-old girl.
Left alone with her children and struggling to make ends meet, she revealed that she and her husband had four kids, with two of them passing away prematurely. She tearfully expressed the difficulty of raising their two remaining children on her own.
Vidyasagar Mishra, Additional Superintendent of Police East, disclosed that a case had been registered against the accused, a resident of Garhwa, Jharkhand, based on his wife’s complaint. A dedicated team has been formed to locate the couple.
The Station Incharge of Aspur Devsara Police Station stated that they had placed the accused’s mobile phone under surveillance, and its location was traced to another state. Authorities have assured that he will be apprehended soon and brought back to Pratapgarh to face the necessary legal proceedings.
